The Weather Channel plumbed the data on the windiest U.S. cities with at least 100,000 residents and came up with Boston ranked fourth overall, just behind Lubbock, Tex., Rochester, Minn., and Amarillo, Tex. The average Boston wind speed is 12.3 miles per hour, and the most common direction of said wind is west-northwest.
Why care about this now? Because those strong gusts this past Sunday knocked over a statue of Benjamin Franklin that had stood in downtown Boston since 1856.
