Developer Brian Crowley of Quincy has filed plans to convert the long-vacant Broadway Theatre at 420 West Broadway in South Boston into 42 condos or apartments.
Crowley would retain the two-story brick portion of the 97-year-old building fronting West Broadway. The old theater’s lobby there would become the residential complex’s lobby as well as 1,350 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
As for the main back portion along Athens Street, it would be demolished and replaced with a six-story, 44,000-square-foot addition. There would also be a shared roof deck for residents and 42 underground parking spaces accessible via Athens.
Everything’s still rather tentative at the moment, so stay tuned. Old Boston theaters are having a moment right now.
