Boston’s best new building of 2017: Boston East

Four honorable mentions

East Boston’s Boston East apartment complex is the best new building of 2017, according to Curbed Boston readers.

Thank you to all who voted last week—there were more than 21,000 unique votes cast!


The winner (with 45 percent of the vote)

Construction is supposed to wrap any day now on the 200-unit Boston East complex. Trinity Financial is the lead developer and ICON Architecture handled the design.

The $71 million project at 126 Border Street is set to include 174 market-rate units and 26 units designated as affordable, including six artist live-work apartments.

It will also include amenities such as a kayak and paddle board launch; a dog spa; a fitness center; a concierge; a Hubway dock and Zipcar spots on-site; and quick access to the Harborwalk.

Lovejoy Wharf. Related Beal’s 15-story, 157-unit Lovejoy Wharf condo building between the Zakim and Charlestown bridges opened over the summer. The design was a collaboration between Stantec and Robert A.M. Stern Architects.

The Harlo. Developer Skanska USA opened its 17-story, 183,000-square-foot apartment tower at 1350 Boylston Street in Fenway in October.

The Lucas. A development team that New Boston Ventures led finished construction in the fall on the conversion of the former Holy Trinity German Catholic Church and rectory in the South End. It’s now 33 luxury condos. Finegold Alexander Architects is behind the glassy design.

Reebok HQ. Gensler designed the five-floor, 220,000-square-foot headquarters buildout for the sneaker giant at the Seaport District’s Innovation and Design Building. Reebok began opening the HQ, including a flagship retail store, in late 2017.
