Harvard Square’s Crimson Corner inks deal for new location nearby

54-year mainstay faced closure

One of Harvard Square’s most endangered businesses, the Crimson Corner newsstand, is catching a break.

The publication and postcard vendor will move about 400 feet down the road to 35 Brattle Street from its location of 54 years at Brattle and Massachusetts Avenue.

Crimson Corner’s present space is set to become a pizzeria, one of several changes marking the Cambridge square just off the university of the same name.

The vendor’s new space is smaller, more expensive, and has less retail frontage, per John Hawkinson at Cambridge Day. But it does have one key advantage: The lease is for four years, with an option to stay until 2025.

Crimson Corner will make the move April 10.
