Boston starter homes: Shopping around for no more than $350,000

Yes, there are options

All this week we’re looking at Boston starter homes—the houses and the condos that are in at least decent shape and that won’t break the bank; not an easy combination to come by in modern Boston.

The below analysis of market-rate listings asking no more than $350,000 comes courtesy of real estate research site NeighborhoodX. Use the box on the upper left of the chart to find other measures, including price per square foot.

This analysis really highlights that old real estate adage about location. As NeighborhoodX co-founder Constantine Valhouli notes, the same $350,000 that buys 280 square feet in Back Bay nets 1,506 square feet in Dorchester.
