Hubway, the Boston region’s bike-share system, has rolled out a mobile app that shows nearby stations and the number of bikes and open docks available at different locations.
And, unlike third-party apps, Hubway’s official one includes not only these functions, but also one that lets riders buy tickets or annual passes on their smartphones.
What’s more, Hubway has introduced an app-only $1 fare special through August 14. Riders, too, can purchase an annual pass during the same period for $79, a $20 discount, per the Globe’s Adam Vaccaro.
The deals aren’t just to lure riders to the new app. They also coincide with a spell of major construction along Commonwealth Avenue, which will disrupt T and vehicular service, but not (in theory) biking.
