The bones of the 2,564-square-foot, eight-room house at 37 Hancock Street in Lexington’s Merriam Hill date from 1780.

A wing that local architecture concern Bechtel, Frank, Erickson designed was added in 1993 to bring the colonial-style home to its current size.

That home is now on sale through the Murphy Group Lexington for $1,149,000. It includes flourishes such as exposed beams from way back and a long front porch as well as a main bedroom suite with its own staircase.
