What $3,500 a month rents around Cambridge

Including in Harvard Square, Central Square, and East Cambridge

A scale. One side of the scale is holding a heart. The other side of the scale is holding a the symbol for money: a dollar sign. The central part of the scale reads Curbed. In the background is a pattern with keys. Illustration.

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a weekly column that explores what one can rent or buy for a set dollar amount (or thereabouts) in the Boston area. Is one woman’s studio another woman’s townhouse? Let’s find out! Today, the magic number is $3,500 a month in Cambridge.

Unit 409 at 10 Dana Street in between Harvard and Central squares runs to 897 square feet and contains three bedrooms and one bathroom. It is two levels and there is laundry and bike storage in the building. Be warned: There is no elevator and this is on the fourth floor.

In East Cambridge, Unit 304 at 10 Rogers Street contains two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and it runs to 1,369 square feet. The rent covers a parking space, too, and there are two guest suites in the building that tenants can make use of for visitors.

Unit 2 at 374 Harvard Street in—where else?—Harvard Square has three bedrooms and one bathroom. It’s upstairs in a Victorian with two bow windows.

Unit 3 at 131 Erie Street in Cambridgeport is the product of a gut-renovation. It runs to 1,050 square feet, and it contains three bedrooms and one bathroom. The rent includes a parking permit and there is in-unit laundry.

Back in East Cambridge, Unit D706 at 17 Otis Street runs to 1,098 square feet, and has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The rent covers a parking space as well as access to a shared roof deck that is apparently prime for viewing the Fourth of July fireworks on the Charles River.
