Wynn Boston Harbor, giant casino on the Mystic, headed for name change

New, 4 comments

Encore Boston perhaps?

The gigantic casino-resort going up on the banks of the Mystic River in Everett appears destined for a name-change as the company behind it scrambles away from its embattled ex-chairman and CEO.

The $2.4 billion, 3 million-square-foot complex is currently dubbed Wynn Boston Harbor and due to open in late June 2019. Multiple women, however, have accused Steve Wynn—the Wynn in Wynn Boston Harbor—of sexual harassment and assault, including rape.

Those accusations—which Steve Wynn denies and which first came to light in January—have spurred numerous Massachusetts officials and residents to push Wynn Resorts to change the Everett project’s name.

Wynn Resorts executives are publicly amenable to the move. “It’s under active consideration right now,” Robert DeSalvio, president of Wynn Boston Harbor, told the state Gaming Commission recently.

What might the new name be? Well, if recent Wynn Resorts purchases of domain names are any indication, it’ll probably be along the lines of Encore Boston. Per the Herald’s Jordan Graham:

A Wynn spokesman declined to say what names the company is considering, but public website domain registry information shows Wynn Resorts Holdings registered at least nine websites in recent weeks utilizing the company’s Encore brand, including encorebostonharborcasino.com, encorebostonjobs.com and encorebostonresort.com.

Stay tuned.
