Mattapan market-rate home prices averaging nearly $300 a square foot

That makes the neighborhood one of Boston’s most affordable

The average asking price of market-rate homes in Mattapan as of early May was $283 a square foot, according to an analysis from real estate research site NeighborhoodX.

A range of $170 to $395 a square foot produced that average. See the chart below for a deeper breakdown.

The $283 average places Mattapan squarely among Boston proper’s more affordable neighborhoods, along with Hyde Park and parts of mighty Dorchester.
