It’s a truism of Boston-area real estate that finding a market-rate home under $400,000 or thereabouts is quite difficult. The region is notorious for its high prices.
But a new analysis of market-rate listings at the start of September from real estate research site NeighborhoodX finds at least 15 for under $300,000. And, lest you assume they are all wedged-in studios on the lower floors of buildings, a full one-third are single-families.
The 15 most affordable market-rate homes in the Boston area range from just under $135,000 for a 609-square-foot bungalow in Revere to just under $285,000 for a 464-square-foot bungalow in Waltham. Here’s a breakdown:
“For those willing to extend their search into the cities adjacent to Boston, many of which still feel connected to the city through the T, there are bargains to be found,” NeighborhoodX research director Constantine Valhouli said over email. “For context, some of these prices in Quincy and Malden now look like Brighton and Allston circa 2005.”
