Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a weekly column that explores what one can rent or buy for a set dollar amount (or thereabouts) in the Boston area. Is one woman’s studio another woman’s townhouse? Let’s find out! This week it’s $900,000 in Boston.
In the Telegraph Hill area of South Boston, $899,000 buys you a renovation or redevelopment opportunity in the form of the 1,684-square-foot, three-bedroom, one-bathroom single-family at 654-R East Broadway.
Back in the South End, Unit 2 at 692 Tremont Street is asking $899,000 for its 1,052 square feet. The Philly-style duplex in a classic brownstone includes one bathroom and two bedrooms. The condo fee is $459.69.
Now back to South Boston, to the area close to Andrew Square, where the new-construction Unit 2 at 232 Old Colony Avenue is listed for $899,000. The 1,221-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bathroom includes one garaged parking space. The condo fee is $427.35.
We end in South Boston, in fact, near West Broadway. Unit 101 at 150-156 Athens Street is also new-construction.
The 954-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bathroom is asking $849,000 (and is further proof that the $900K market or thereabouts in Boston now is largely confined to Southie and the South End). The condo fee is $190.77, and the unit comes with one garaged parking space.
Which one would you buy?
