As if additional evidence was needed that the Boston luxury housing market had ascended to heights normally only occupied by listings in New York City and San Francisco, along comes Penthouse 2E at the Mandarin Oriental in Back Bay.
The seller purchased the double unit at 776 Boylston Street in 2011 as raw space, and then outfitted it with a design from Daniel H. Reynolds and contracting from Lagasse Custom Builders, according to a release from Coldwell Banker’s Brigitte Petrocelli, who is listing the penthouse.
It runs to 6,829 square feet on the inside and thousands more square feet on the outside. There are four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms.
It also comes with bells and whistles such as a massage room off the main suite; an art gallery that double-sided ventless gas fireplaces heats; a bar with stone countertops; and a home theater. And that outdoor space includes 2,500 square feet of private rooftop accessible via two private elevators. According to Coldwell Banker, “an outdoor canine area” is part of that space too.
The asking price covers four garage parking spaces as well.
What is that price, you ask? Dig deep: Penthouse 2E is asking $28 million as of June 7—or more than $4,100 a square foot. The condo fee, incidentally, is $13,000-plus, and entitles the owner to the Mandarin Oriental suite of services.
