The bones of the nine-room, 3,632-square-foot townhouse at 147 West Canton Street in the go-go South End date from the 1890s, but much of the originally federal spread has been redone in a contemporary style.

It’s also sizable by Boston proper standards. There are four floors, three bedrooms, and three and a half bathrooms, never mind a large deck and a fenced-in yard.

Given such space and such a location, 147 West Canton doesn’t come cheap: It’s asking $5,175,000, or $1,424 a square foot, through Coldwell Banker. A report covering closed deals in downtown Boston during 2019’s fourth quarter pegged the median townhouse price at $1,311,500 and the average price per foot at $730.
