Developer Boston Properties has proposed replacing the four-story building at 325 Main Street in Cambridge’s busy, busy Kendall Square with an 18-story, 387,187-square-foot glassy tower that might possibly house offices for Google.

The internet hegemon already has offices at 355 Main Street, and this new addition would apparently be connected to that building anyway. The proposed tower would replace what’s now best-known as the home of the M.I.T. Coop.

It’s early days for the plans—Boston Properties only presented them to Cambridge officials in early October—and there has been some pushback already regarding the building’s design. Plus, zoning changes are necessary for its construction.

Then there is Boston Properties’ plans for 145 Broadway, right around the corner from 325 Main: It wants to construct a 34-story residential tower there. The developer is proposing that building jointly with the would-be Google offices to comply with a Cambridge zoning plan meant to support balance for Kendall Square. Stay tuned.
