London-based Scape says project would be aimed at graduate students

London-based developer and landlord Scape wants to build a 15-story, 205,500-square-foot private dormitory aimed at graduate students on a stretch of Boylston Street in Fenway.

The proposal is part of the firm’s plans to invest some $1 billion in building such structures in Boston in the next few years, a move it has said will help alleviate the city’s housing crunch.

Scape’s Fenway project at 1252-1268 Boylston Street—near the ballpark of the same name, in fact—would have 500 units, some with more than one bed each. Its previous projects in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Australia have proved particularly popular, with some sites completely leased and others close to it.

The Fenway project, rendered above, would be Scape’s first in the United States.

Will such private dorms take here? Time will tell, but there is certainly demand for housing Boston. Scape plans to file more detailed plans for its Fenway proposal before the end of 2018, per the Globe’s Tim Logan. Stay tuned.
