A New Jersey developer has tweaked its plans for an apartment project at 40 Rugg Road in Allston to incorporate the site’s past as an artists haven.
The current collection of four industrial buildings housed the Rugg Road artist and musician studios for many years. The redevelopment, then, will include eight below-market-rate units for artists among its planned 265 apartments.
Moreover, each of those eight units will be allotted 1,350 square feet of gallery and work space on the project’s ground floor, per the Herald’s Donna Goodison.
Developer the Michaels Organization also said that the apartments themselves will have larger-than-usual entrances and more flexible floor plans.
And, naturally, the developer plans to display artists’ work in 40 Rugg’s common spaces.
