Hotel rooms, retail possibilities

The Boston Red Sox are considering building on several parcels around Fenway Park.

The team hasn’t finalized any plans, but a top Red Sox executive did tell the Herald’s Donna Goodison that retail and perhaps hotel rooms are under consideration—and that whatever does go up will in theory enhance fans’ game-day experiences.

He added that the team has no intention of closing off other streets as part of the development the way the Sox do with Yawkey Way (or whatever it might be called) during the baseball season.

The sites slated for development are the parking lot at 73 Brookline Avenue; a parking lot at 55 Yawkey Way; the garage at 49 Lansdowne Street; a garage at 160 Ipswich Street; a garage at 189 Ipswich Street; and the building at 1265 Boylston Street that houses Tony C’s Sports Bar & Grill.

Any development will continue a years-long trend in the surrounding neighborhood. Fenway has welcomed myriad projects recently, including the tallest building in Massachusetts west of Back Bay.

Stay tuned.
