It’s part of Wynn Resorts’ break with its founder

Wynn Resorts is changing the name of its under-construction casino-resort in Everett to Encore Boston Harbor from Wynn Boston Harbor. The new name is a nod to one of the Las Vegas company’s hotel brands and another sign of Wynn’s break with its disgraced founder.

Multiple women have accused Steve Wynn of sexual harassment and assault, including rape. Those accusations—which Steve Wynn denies and which first came to light in January—had spurred numerous Massachusetts officials and residents to push Wynn Resorts to change the Everett project’s name.

Wynn CEO Matt Maddox confirmed the change to state regulators on April 27. It had been expected since at least last month.

The $2.4 billion, 3 million-square-foot complex—which will include 671 hotel rooms as well as 13 bars and restaurants—is under construction along the Mystic River, and is due to open in late June 2019.
