The first part of the development previously known as Mass + Main—one of the biggest new projects to drop in Cambridge’s Central Square in ages—is now leasing.
The four-story, 23-unit Union House at 47 Bishop Allen Drive is comprised mostly of two- and three-bedrooms, with a smattering of studios and one-bedrooms. It is unclear what the asking rents are, but at least one listing pegs a one-bedroom of indeterminate square-footage at $1,750 a month, which would be competitive for the area.
Tenants are expected to begin moving into Union House in November. According to an executive at developer Twining, the building is aimed at families and young couples “looking for a home with a neighborhood vibe.” It includes a landscaped backyard for grilling and “hanging out with neighbors.”
Meanwhile, work on the larger three-building project—now dubbed Market Central to in part reflect its retail component—continues. A six-story building on Columbia Street, called Link, is expected to wrap before Halloween and open by next summer. A 19-story Massachusetts Avenue tower called Watermark Central is expected to open in 2020.
All totaled, Market Central is expected to have 308 apartments right off the busy, busy Red Line.
