Cambridge-based developer Urban Spaces says that it will start demolition work during the first week in April at a site in the northern reaches of Cambridge’s busy, busy Kendall Square.

The company is planning to develop a two-building complex with 136 luxury apartments above 14,800 square feet of retail. One building will be six stories, the other four.

The site is across from the Cambridgeside mall, which is seeing its own changes, and encompasses properties at 99-119 First Street, 18 Hurley Street, and 29 Charles Street. It’s near the Kendall Square Red Line stop too.

Architecture firm Perkins Eastman is designing the complex, dubbed Kendall East. It will include those apartments and that retail as well as a two-level underground garage with 142 car spaces and 159 bike ones. Above the garage will be a half-acre of open green space. A new bath is expected to connect that space with Hurley Street and the Charles River.

Construction, which will commence after the early April demo work, is expected to wrap in 2020. Given the Cambridge apartment market, it’s unlikely these units will have trouble leasing. Stay tuned.
