A Newton-based developer appears to be amassing a large footprint near South Boston’s Andrew Square that could host a major development, according to reports.
In late February, a subsidiary of National Development purchased 285 Washington Street at the intersection of Dorchester and Old Colony avenues. The same firm bought two contiguous plots at 663-365 and 345 Dorchester Avenue in September. Together, those parcels total around 4.5 acres.
Add in another 5.5 acres that National Development has acquired and is acquiring, and we’re talking a sizable project.
It could end up as part of other major developments in that area where Southie meets Dorchester. A 2016 Boston Planning and Development Agency analysis projected that a proposed rezoning could generate as much as 16 million square feet of development between the Broadway and Andrew Red Line stops over 20 years. Stay tuned.
