Newbury College is asking $40 million for its 7.8-acre campus along Fisher Avenue in Brookline’s Fisher Hill neighborhood.
Recall that the financially struggling school announced in December 2018 that it would close after the spring semester. That immediately put its choice location in real estate play. In late February, it became clear that a sale could come as soon as this summer.
The potential sale price, though, was not clear until March 5. Whether this $40 million asking tag encourages or discourages potential suitors—listing brokerage Colliers International has said there have been several since December—remains to be seen.
State Attorney General Maura Healey would have to approve any sale because Newbury is a nonprofit. Stay tuned.
