Seaport District ‘innovation campus’ envisioned under new plans

Affiliate connected with Winthrop Center developer would replace warehouse with 900,000-square-foot campus—but will it have a gondola?

An affiliate of Millennium Partners, the same developer behind Millennium Tower in Downtown Crossing and the under-construction Winthrop Center in the Financial District, has filed plans for what it’s calling an “innovation campus” in the Seaport District.

The proposal calls for demolishing an empty warehouse in the Raymond L. Flynn Marine Industrial Park and replacing it with 900,000 square feet of office, research, retail, and restaurant space, along with parking and other supporting uses, per the Boston Business Journal’s Catherine Carlock.

The plans are much more modest than the 2.7 million square feet that the affiliate had envisioned, potentially as a site for Amazon’s second headquarters. The e-commerce behemoth famously skipped the Boston area (and a lot of other areas), and, with it, apparently went the grander plans.

Those plans had included an aerial gondola also to link the campus with downtown Boston. That, too, seems kaput, per Carlock. Stay tuned.
