All the Boston Homes Renting for More Than $10,000

View as Map

On Monday came news that a fabulous spread at the Ritz-Carlton was renting for $30,000 a month, $10,000 less than what appears to be the priciest Boston rental right now: the 8,450-square-foot Benjamin Mansion at 74 Beacon Street. That got us to thinking: Where are the other Boston mega-rentals, those currently asking above $10,000 a month? And that led us to the Most Expensive Rentals Heatmap as well as to a few surprises: Only one in prime Back Bay. None really on the waterfront. One that promises a 400-disc sound system circa 2005. A 200-year-old townhouse with a backyard bigger than most apartments. Oh, and no fewer than five listings in the Ritz, including the most recent entrant.

As noted, this 2,971-square-foot Ritz-Carlton penthouse hit the rental market at the very end of November, after being listed for sale since June for $4,500,000.

The Benjamin Mansion seems to hover between the sales and rental markets, disappearing and reappearing from and on both, sometimes in the same day. The 8,450-square-foot townhouse with rooftop pool first asked $40,000 a month in September. We'll see what happens.
