Boston's movie theater boom: New houses to triple city's number of screens

Boston's building boom has extended to movie theaters. Four that are either under construction or planned will nearly triple the number of movie screens in the city, according to the Globe's Tim Logan.

Here's a map of where they're going.

As to why they're going up at all, credit downtown Boston's increasing ranks of both young professionals and empty-nesters. They are the target audience for the theaters, which will feature touches such as cocktail bars and priority seating and which will each be near hundreds of existing and new apartments and condos.

As one theater executive put it to Logan: "We were looking for places where people really enjoy getting out of the house. Boston definitely fits that bill."
