Cambridge’s hotel boom: New projects adding hundreds of rooms

In Porter Square especially

View as Map

A run of hotel construction that started in 2015 will add nearly 450 rooms to Cambridge by the end of 2018.

That is nothing like the number coming to Boston—the planned Seaport District hotel across from the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center will alone add more than 1,000 rooms—but, then again, Cambridge is about one-sixth the population of its neighbor.

This map charts what Cambridge Day’s Marc Levy aptly describes as Cambridge’s “mini-boom in hotels.”

Notes: It does not include the 35-room, extended-stay Beacon Street Hotel at 371 Beacon Street, just over the Somerville line, nor the Freepoint at 220 Alewife Brook Parkway, which is a rebranding of an existing hotel.
