This year was a whopper for Somerville in terms of home sales.

The 12 months now ending saw the city's two priciest trades ever as well as other titanic deals that seemed to presage a permanent shift for the Somerville housing market from Cambridge or Boston Plan B to gobsmacking pricey in its own right.

The late July trade of this 2,500-square-foot 4-BR, 2-BA was not only one of the two priciest Somerville deals of 2016, but the priciest home sale in the city's history up to that point (it quickly had competition; see below). The record tag? $1,750,000.
