Just a hop, skip and a jump away from downtown Boston is Dorchester, specifically its neighborhood to the north, Savin Hill. Close to the MBTA, a short bike ride to the South End, and relatively fast access to I-93 make it easy to zip in and out of the city. As one of the older neighborhoods, houses range from the quintessential triple-deckers to Victorian mansions. The homes feature fully renovated condos with high-end finishes, porches (some have front and back porches), and private driveways, all of which is unimaginable in the city for under $500,000. Before you cross it off your list, consider that Mayor Marty Walsh also called Savin Hill home. The secret's out now.
