This oft-updated map has recent sightings of Squirtle, Abra, and the rest of the gang

Pokemon Go continues to sweep the Boston region despite the heat and despite pleas from the citizenry to please look up from your smartphone. Whether you're an old hand at the augmented virtual reality game or just getting started, this map will show you the best places to play.

It will be updated regularly based on available crowdsourced material and reader tips. So if you've spotted Pokemon in a neighborhood not mapped below or if you've discovered Pokemon not labeled, sound off in the comments or email boston@curbed.com.

Update 7/25: Pikachu and Electabuzz spotted at Peters Park in the South End. Cubone, Voltorb, and Ghastly were reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Beach Street, also in the South End.

Update 7/26: Squirtle and Jynx have been reported around the Downtown Crossing T stop. Lickitung, Hitmonchan, Jynx, and Tauros have been spotted clustered in South Quincy.

Update 7/27: Ghastly, Voltorb, and Cubone spotted at Harrison Avenue and Beach Street in Chinatown. Dratini and Wartortle reported just south of Summer Street in Fort Point. The Charles River Esplanade (Boston side) has heated up: Bulbasaur, Slowpoke, Magikarp, Staryu, and Dratini. Finally, Spearow was spotted right off the Suffolk Downs T stop.

Update 7/30: Vaperon was spotted at the Boston Harbor Hotel recently.

Update 8/1: We deleted Harvard Yard. And we added the Back Bay Fens, where Dratini, Seel, Tentacool, Exeggcute, Eevee, and Squirtle have been spotted.

Update 8/3: Paras has been spotted in Eastie's Lombardi Memorial Park.

Update 8/4: The North End's Christopher Columbus Park has turned into a hotbed of Pokemon. Recent sightings: Grimer, Blastoise, Dratini, and Tauros. Activity has also erupted along Reserved Channel in Southie: Squirtle, Voltorb, Poliwhirl, Goldeen, Magicarp, and Poliwag are all up for grabs there. Meowth, Tauros, and Golbat have been sighted in Newton's Albemarle Field.

Update 8/10: Scyther and Lickitung have been found in Franklin Park. Electabuzz in particular has been spotted (and caught) in Cutler Park on the Newton/Needham border. Slowpoke, Shellder, Poliwag, Nidoran, and Geodude have also been found there.

Update 8/15: Vulpix and Staryu have been caught on Boston Common. Exeggcute, Growlithe, Vaporean, and Victoreebell have also been caught in Cambridge Common. Rhyhorn and Bulbasaur were recently sighted and caught in the Davis Square area. Venonat, Abra, Magnemite, and Mankey have been reported near the Harvard Avenue Green Line stop.
